OpenDrinks Cork and Web 2.0 Expo

The European Web 2.0 Expo is being held in Berlin this year from the 5th-8th of November and it is shaping up to be a really high-profile event. The San Francisco Web 2.0 Expo in April had 12,000 attendees and the Berlin one is expected to attract at least 5,000 delegates.

If you want to participate, the deadline for proposals for talks is July 17th and from the call for participants page, the formats are:

Workshops. We’ll have one full day of workshops that take people deep into the fundamentals of building Web 2.0 businesses. Workshops will be approximately 3 hours long each. Plan for interactivity/audience participation if possible.

1-Hour (Breakout) Sessions
. These make up the bulk of the conference program. We will be organizing the breakout sessions into tracks to be determined at a later date, so please specify who you see as the audience for your session.

High Order Bits. These are 10 minute presentations delivered on the keynote stage that demonstrate a lesson learned, interface, project, or any other very cool thing that will change the thinking of the audience members. These short presentations should be very high impact and highly revelant.

Open Sessions. We are planning a Web2Open for the Berlin event, but do not have details yet. For information on the Web2Open that happened in San Francisco in April, go here.

Launch Pad. Are you an early stage Web 2.0 company who would like to launch your product or company at the conference? Our Web 2.0 Expo Launch Pad series provides a platform for notable companies to debut. More information will be available on the Launch Pad in July.

The event is being organised by CMP Technology and O’Reilly Media.

This is going to be a landmark event in the European Web 2.0 space and attendance there will almost be mandatory for anyone in this area or hoping to break into it.

Jennifer Pahlka, one of the organisers, is coming to Cork (her only Irish stop) on July 14th and has proposed an OpenDrinks Event on the evening of the 14th for any Irish people interested in going to the Web 2.0 Expo or for anyone hoping to present there.

I have created an OpenDrinks wiki for anyone who is interested in meeting Jennifer, or who is interested in going to the Expo. Please head over there and add your name to the list if you are going to come along.
