Dropping Feedburner feed ads

I decided to try adding ads to my RSS feed a few months back to see how the process worked and if it is a viable revenue generator. The ads were inserted into my RSS feed by the FeedBurner Ad Network.

I have dropped the ads from the feed in the last few days as they were generating a small bit of negative feedback from readers and there was virtually no income from them (around $2 for the month of January).

Has anyone else using RSS advertising decided to roll back on it?

  1. Hi Tom: I’ve been using it on a blog of mine for a while, but it doesn’t generate nearly enough revenue. A lot of the ads that we were offered had geotargetting, which presumably limited the audience to the USA.

    I did find that the run-up to Christmas was a good earner, but in the New Year their ad inventory seems to have dried up. It’s not worth more than $60 per month right now.

    On the other hand, there haven’t been any complaints about them, so I’m inclined to leave them in place as a bit of passive income.

  2. I’ve been thinking on dropping the FeedBurner (on kenmc.com) one as well as revenue-wise it makes nothing. They were originally going to allow the inclusion of AdSense into the feeds but don’t think it ever happened.

    Text Link Ads I find has a great RSS service. I’ve sold RSS links for LiverpoolAccess.com, makes more revenue than FeedBurner ever could for me I reckon.

    Real sorry to see you go, but I understand your comments. We’re always looking at ways to increase the supply and variety of ads, and hope to have more to report in the near future on that front. Keep an eye on our blog for more news.

  4. I personally think you should get rid of Ads although as they give a very bad impression in my view of your Blog. I understand you may need it too sustain the costs of Servers and Hosting.

    However I think it depersonalises your blog and seemingly very commercialised but then I hate every type of advertisement so maybe a slightly biased view.
