  • New blogs and their comment policies

Thanks to Bernie I found two new interesting blogs this morning: – the first is Karlin Lillington. Karlin is a longtime blogger who has been on a blogging sabattical (not entirely by choice) for some time now but who has just started blogging once more – welcome back Karlin. – the second is Chris Horn.…

  • Post number 1,000!

I just took this screenshot in my WordPress dashboard and it shows 999 posts published on this blog! That means this is post number 1,000. Wow! Thanks to everyone who has come to this blog, particularly those who go to the trouble of leaving a comment. The comments are a fabulous resource and I am…

  • 1,000+ subscribers and no free pint 🙁

Bernie pointed out that the number of subscribers to this blog went over the 1,000 mark yesterday. He also correctly deduced that this is due to FeedBurner’s taking Google Reader’s (now published) numbers into account in its statistics. • Anyone for the last few votes now?

Today is the last day of voting for the Irish Blog Awards – voting closes this afternoon at 5pm GMT. Everyone is eligible to vote. If you haven’t already voted (and if there is still time when you read this!) head on over to the voting page to cast your ballot.

Judge for yourself – listed below are the categories in which I have been nominated (twice in the best podcast category). I have italicised…

  • Twenty Major exposes himself?

Looks like Twenty Major has moved over to WordPress as his blogging platform. Good move Twenty! Wonder what Donncha thinks? One thing though – on Blogspot (Twenty’s old blog host) wouldn’t it be easier for Twenty to maintain his anonymity? Although I see the crafty old bugger has gone through Domains by Proxy!

  • Akismet 2.0 is a life (and comment) saver

Akismet is the default anti-spam plugin which comes with WordPress and it has saved me from literally hundreds of thousnads of comment spam messages (124,200 last time I looked). A new version (Akismet 2.0) was released the same time as WordPress 2.1’s release so it’s release was kind of drowned out in the hoopla. To…

  • Why do I blog?

That is the question Darren Barefoot is trying to get answered in his short 16 question survey. There are prizes for participating in the survey and even more prizes for mentioning the survey in your blog (ahem!). I’m not 100% sure why I do it but I imagine there’s a 12 step program… Via Eoin
